Founded in 1854, the city of Omaha has always been a dynamic, energetic city continually transforming itself.

Whether it was the Native American Indian tribes, pioneers, railroad laborers or meat packers, everyone who came to call Omaha home helped shape its current cultural diversity, hard work ethic, and friendly demeanor. Named after an American Indian Tribe, Omaha means "Those going against the wind or current", Omahans proudly continue to live up to the name.  In recent years, the Omaha riverfront and downtown area have experienced tremendous growth with over two billion dollars in new development. Currently, the 42nd largest city in the United States, the metropolitan area is home to over 900,000 people who welcome visitors with open arms and authentic Midwestern hospitality.

Sam Johnson For The Independence Fund

Founded in 2007, The Independence Fund is committed to empowering our nation’s catastrophically wounded, injured, or ill Veterans to overcome physical, mental, and emotional wounds incurred in the line of duty. We are dedicated to improving the lives of both our Veterans and their families. Through our Mobility, Caregiver, Adaptive Sports, Advocacy, and Family programs, The Independence Fund strives to bridge the gap of unmet needs for Veterans and their caregivers.

Mobility Many severely wounded Veterans have lost the ability to experience activities they previously enjoyed. Veterans who use our all-terrain mobility devices regain the ability to do the things they love, transforming their lives toward a better future.

Adaptive Sports By inviting Veterans to participate in sporting events, providing funding for adaptive equipment, and granting funds for Veteran adaptive sports organizations, our Adaptive Sports Program gives Veterans the opportunity to improve their well-being.
Caregivers The Independence Fund serves the heroes behind the heroes: the Caregivers who work tirelessly to support wounded Veterans day-in and day-out. We give Caregivers the means to build strong networks and receive the support they need.
Advocacy For Veterans returning with the scars of war, the fight doesn’t end upon their arrival home. Unfortunately, some of the biggest battles are with the very institutions who are supposed to be on their side. We are fighting for those who fought for us!
Heroes at Home Our Family Program, called Heroes at Home, provides assistance to the families of catastrophically wounded, ill, and injured Veterans, through great experiences and a much deserved break from the typically 24/7 lasting effects of war.
Operation RESILIENCY Together, The Independence Fund and the VA are combating Veteran suicide and reuniting these Veterans with independence. The goal is to ensure the unit that experiences the battle together, experiences healing together.

The National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) is planned as the official museum for the history of the United States Army and is under construction just outside Washington, DC. The objectives of the museum are to honor America's soldiers, preserve army history, and educate the public about the army's role in American history.

The National Museum is located on 84 acres at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, 20 miles south of Washington, D.C. Ground was broken for the museum in September 2016, and it is currently projected to open sometime in 2020.[1] The main building will be approximately 185,000 square feet and display selections from the Center of Military History. Outside this facility will be a park with a memorial garden and parade ground. Space is being planned to accommodate ceremonies, reenactments, lectures, educational programs, conferences and reunions.

The National Museum of the United States Army will serve as the capstone of the Army Museum Enterprise and provide the only comprehensive portrayal of Army history and traditions.  The National Army Museum will celebrate the selfless service and sacrifice of over 30 million men and women who have worn the Army uniform since 1775.

Dan Pedersen "Godfather of Topgun"

Pedersen, a distinguished military veteran known as the “Godfather of Topgun,” is credited with establishing the Navy Fighter Weapons School. His memoir, a collection of captivating, action-packed anecdotes and pivotal events in his naval career, moves briskly through time spent with committed men dedicated to their “monastic calling.” The author enlisted in 1956, and he covers his early years before moving into tales of Vietnam. As mounting losses and ineffective artillery, tactics, and leadership weakened America’s defensive strategies in the 1960s, Pedersen recalls craving a fresh master plan to even the odds. Recognizing Pedersen’s excellence in aerial gunnery and overall flight and defensive precision, the Navy selected him, then stationed at Miramar, California (“Fightertown USA”), to head up an air combat graduate school featuring eight other passionate and talented officers known as the “Original Bros.” In describing the founding days of Topgun, the author details his selection of veteran pilots and a procedural curriculum to utilize the new MiG fighter jets. He also highlights the toll their call of duty took on marriages and families; regrets aside, “for us, flying always came first.” Throughout the book, Pedersen ably conveys the immense camaraderie among the courageous brotherhood of American fighter pilots and conjures the excitement of daring aerial combat and weaponry maneuvers. He proudly notes that, at its 50th anniversary, the Topgun course remains the standard of excellence for providing air combat and weapons systems training.
