Cecil Byrd and the SHEROES project

  • ( Download )

NACV has been around since 1968. The focus continues to be doing whatever is needed to advocate and serve the neediest of our veterans. The area that the Coalition to Salute America's heroe's  has helped out with the most is in financing our Sheroes Project, the transitional housing project for female veterans with children here in DC's ward 7. The program is 85% completed and the NACV hopes to be able to open up the thirteen bedroom facility within the next month and a half.

n addition, to housing the project will offer child care and comprehensive readjustment, transition and re entry services.

Thanks to the Coalition the NACV has been able to complete a six bedroom home for female vets last year.  That  facility will transition from housing the disabled vets who are presently renovating the larger facility to accepting all female vets as soon as the Sheroes project is completed.

In addition, to donations for labor and materials, the Coalition has provided gift cards for Thanksgiving and Christmas to over 60 vets in the DC area. We have finished the majority of the plumbing, the electrical, the mechanical, the fire alarm, the drywall, the insulation, the windows, the roof, most of the painting and next week will begin carpeting and tile.

We need funding for 37 doors and in line smoke detectors and labor for three weeks.

To date thanks to the coalition, the Vietnam veterans foundation, the circle of friends, Home depot and a few private donors along with the pipe fitter and mechanical contractor and Reza and his flooring company we have been able to completely renovate two properties that will be able to provide comprehensive services and housing to over 20 female veterans at a time.
